Kenya is set to expedite the issuance of digital identities as part of its efforts to enhance productivity and competitiveness in the ICT sector. The decision comes after the recent budget allocation of $109.6 million (KES 15.1 billion) for ICT initiatives in the 2023/2024 financial year.
Previously, the country had implemented the Huduma Namba system, which faced criticism and financial irregularities. President Ruto emphasized the need for a more efficient and cost-effective solution, stating,

Kenya has been striving to position itself as an ICT innovation hub, implementing various measures to promote the growth of the digital economy.
